Curing your buds

The final step before you are ready to consume your marijuana buds is curing. Curing weed is the essential post-drying process of aging cannabis in sealed containers (usually glass jars) for 2–8+ weeks to maximize potency, flavor, and smoothness. It requires maintaining 55%–65% humidity in a cool, and dark environment. While you can technically smoke uncured weed, it is not recommended — uncured cannabis tastes harsh and grassy, produces darker ash, and is more likely to irritate the throat and lungs due to excess chlorophyll. The simplest way to cure is to put your buds in a closed mason jar, keep in a dark cool place, and burp (open the lid to allow gases to escape) daily for more than 2 weeks. After drying, you will want to cut the buds off of the stems and place them loosely in a Mason jar.

The best way to cure the buds involves adding two more things to the Mason jar. You will want a mini hydrometer which measures humidity (you can get a 6 pack of these on Amazon.com for around $8), and you will need a 2 way humidity control pack to keep the humidity as close to 62% as possible. You can get these from Boveda (get the size 8).

Put the humidity control pack and the hydrometer in the Mason jar with the buds and keep in a cool, dark place. If the humidity gets much below 62%, you can add a little water on the lid and re-seal. If the humidity gets much above 62% you may have to open the jar and keep in front of a fan until the humidity gets closer to 62%. The humidity control pack will do the rest. I would cure for a minimum of 2 weeks, although 2 months would be best.
